| September Board Meeting at DAC The September meeting of the 53rd ADDC was held at the Democratic Action Center on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 7PM. Although this was primarily a Board planning meeting, members were welcome to attend. Minutes will be read at the October generla membership meeting. The Democratic Action Center's address is 1673 Cravens Avenue, Torrance, California 90501. Leadership Summit in August In August the Democratic Action Center hosted the 53rd ADDC, our Delegates and the officers from all South Bay Democratic Clubs for a Planning Summit. The Summit's recommendations will be reported at our next full membership meeting in October. July Meeting Date Moved July's 53rd ADDC membership meeting was held on Thursday, July 23rd, at Coco's Manhattan Beach (2620 N. Sepulveda, corner of Marine & Sepulveda). Dinner and socializing began at 6:30 pm; the meeting began at 7pm. Agenda included a CDP E-Board update from Tony Hale. Minutes may be obtained from Secretary Teresa Bird at tlbird©earthlink.net. May Meeting Notes May's 53rd ADDC Meeting was held on Thursday, May 21 at: Hennessey's Tavern 313 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Manhattan Beach, CA Ted Lieu's staff provided perspective on the 5/19 proposition elections. In addition, our delegates shared some of the California Democratic Convention's highlights with us. March Pre-Convention Summit The 53rd ADDC rescheduled our usual monthly meeting in March to Saturday, March 14 in order to host a pre-convention summit at Hennesseys Manhattan Beach. The primary purpose of the summit was to assist new delegates in understanding what to expect and how to make an impact at their first convention. Points of procedure were explained regarding who can attend the caucuses, their purpose, and how to propose a resolution. In addition, the group discussed several issues of interest to attendees, including Propositions 1a – e and efforts to amend California’s tax structure and majority vote requirements for budgets and new taxes. Ted Lieu made a special guest appearance and answered questions from the crowd regarding Propositions 1a – e and addressed other items of interest. Rep. Lieu has filed to run for Attorney General in 2010, assuming that Jerry Brown will not run for reelection. See Rep. Lieu’s site, http://www.tedlieu.com/, for more information. 53rd AD Election Results On January 10th and 11th, Democrats from around the state elected their local representatives to the California Democratic Party. These representatives will help shape the party's platform, endorse candidates for public office, and become the backbone of Democratic support for the Obama/Biden Administration. Turnout in the 53rd District was excellent, with a large number of candidates and voters. Delegates elected to represent the district were: - Kim Drobny - Marta Evry - Tony Hale (E-Board) - Rosie Haq - Scott Houston - Mary Jack - Jim Kennedy - Martha Marion - Edna Murphy - Cliff Numark - Marc Saltzberg (Member-at-large) - Mitch Ward In addition, the 53rd Assembly District Democratic Congress elected new officers.
